Actually, it depends. Long distance works your slow twitch muscle fibers, your lean muscle. Sprinting works your fast twitch muscles, the big ones. Run distance if you want to be lean and lanky. However, remember this: You are born with a certain mixture of different muscle fibers. Good sprinters have a lot of fast twitch, and therefore typically look big and muscular. Good distance runners have a greater amount of slow twitch. For the most part, whatever you are born with, you keep, so if you don’t build lean muscle, don’t worry about it. Everyone is different.
